Welding Hoods

From a welding project out on an oil rig or tackling a project right in your garage or shop, it is critical that you choose the right welding helmet for the protection of your eyes in each and every work environment. Many welders invest a little more in their hood because it can make a significant difference in both comfort and overall welding ability, not to mention the all-important safety benefits. Welding hoods come in a variety of styles and materials for different applications, but there are certain things you should consider no matter what. You want to first decide if you need a fixed shade or variable shade lens as well as the helmet’s switching speed. Are you looking for a solar or battery-powered helmet and how important is the weight? There are also personal considerations such as aesthetics and the type of welding work you typically perform. No matter what helmet you need, Noel’s Inc. has what you are looking for at a price you will love.

Welding Apparel

Safety should always be your first and foremost concern when performing any kind of welding work, which is why welding apparel is so important on every project. Your chest, arms and hands are often the closest parts of your body in the line of fire for molten slag and sizzling sparks, so coverage is vital. However, you want to maintain your dexterity in order to receive the ability of movement to get the job done correctly. Welding jackets, gloves, sleeves and aprons are all the essentials in one combination or other, so make sure you have the quality gear you require to receive both performance and safety on each project. Noel’s Inc. is your one-stop-shop for affordable welding apparel.

Welding Equipment

Beyond clothing and hoods, welding comes down to the very equipment you are working with. Lacking the appropriate tools and accessories will keep you from completing the job correctly, and maybe altogether. Do not let your work suffer or become delayed because you did not have the equipment you needed when you needed it such as guides, saddles, clamps and more. Noel’s Inc. has a wide variety of equipment and accessories at our hallmark affordable prices, so gear up and save money doing it.

Auto-Darkening Helmets

Auto-darkening helmets are extremely useful in that they automatically adjust once the sensors detect variations in the brightness from the arc. Even when the arc is not active, these helmets allow for the user to see clearly through the lense because they typically sit at a shade of 3 or 4 depending on the helmet — bright enough to see but dark enough to protect from unexpected flashes. These welding hoods are great because they are convenient as you can do many tasks without having to remove the helmet and put it back on, increasing the speed of various tasks. They are great for both professionals and amateurs alike. Keep in mind that auto-darkening helmets require a power source (usually solar or battery) to function, so charging before every use is a must.

Passive Helmets

Timeless and functional, passive welding helmets have been in use by welders around the world throughout the years since the trade was first invented. They remain a highly popular style of helmet for any welding process, despite the increased use and technological advancements in auto-darkening hoods. Passive helmets are structurally solid and show incredible longevity as they withstand rough use and welding processes extremely well. They are also made out of solid materials and tend to be more affordable than alternative hoods. Passive hoods protect from light and debris and a standard shade typically of 10 or 12, whether the arc is active or not. These hoods are easy to use, but are generally recommended for experienced welders because you must be very cautious not to put them off while working and can make the process slower.

Types of Welding Hoods We Carry

  • Fixed-Shade
  • Auto-darkening
  • Passive
  • Pancake
  • Vulcanized
  • Black
  • White
  • Blue

Fixed-Shade Lenses

For those welders who work mainly with a standard kind of material, fixed-shade lenses can be a great option. You can rest assured the shade of lens you work with is effective without needing much testing with different materials. These types of hoods do not auto-adjust (hence the name), so they do not work well with multiple levels of brightness or materials with bright arcs, otherwise damage to the eyes can occur. Stick with other options if you work with multiple materials as they will supply you more flexibility.

Flip-Front Helmets

A flip-front welding hood features a flippable lense as the name suggests and is often preferred by welders who do a lot of grinding because they receive the same protection, but with a larger viewing area and fewer blind spots. With this style, you can flip up auto-darkening lenses between welds and see a perfectly clear area for grinding and fitting. You don’t have to remove the helmet, but they can be heavier due to the extra flip part. Deciding which helmet is best for you can come down to personal preference and type of welding, but you can be sure Noel’s Inc. has what you need at a price you can afford.

Durango Welding Gloves

Selecting the correct welding gloves can make a tremendous difference in many areas including speed, ability and safety. When you look for welding gloves and which kind to pick, it is important to strike a balance with a couple factors: flexibility and protection. Understanding the material each glove is made from is a great first step as well and selecting a glove that will match well with the type of welding you do or plan to do. Noel’s Inc. carries one of the largest selections and quality of gloves and are the exclusive supplier for several manufacturers. Our Durango glove is a division of Noel’s Inc., creating top-quality leather welding gloves at competitive prices as your single source for industrial hand and eye protection.

Why Choose Durango Welding Gloves?

  • Incredible selection
  • Multiple materials
  • Affordable prices
  • Top-quality build
  • Superior protection
  • Heat-resistant
  • Comfortable
  • Flexible

Cowhide Gloves

Cowhide gloves are durable and are extremely flame and heat resistant for welding at high temperatures. Cowhide is also very versatile, gaining a reputation for balancing durability, abrasion resistance, comfort and dexterity. Many MIG welding gloves are made with top-grain cowhide or cow skin, meaning it is the highest-quality leather from the animal’s hide.

Deerskin Gloves

Deerskin is often considered to be the most comfortable fit for welding gloves as there is a great amount of dexterity with this leather. Deerskin also resists high temperatures well and takes the shape of your hand over time, leading to its superior comfort.

Types of Welding Gloves We Carry

  • Cowhide
  • Deerskin
  • Elkskin
  • Goatskin
  • Pigskin

Elkskin Gloves

Elkskin welding gloves provide the best heat, abrasion and flame resistance without sacrificing any comfort. This type of glove often comes in heavier cuts and is excellent for protection when stick welding. These are very popular gloves among welders.

Pigskin and Goatskin

Pigskin gloves are the thinnest and are great for resisting oil and weather, but offer little heat resistance. Goatskin is a favorite among TIG welders because they are light and flexible for great comfort while possessing oil and weather resistance.

Welding Jackets

Welding jackets are important because of the safety they bring to the user as they are an all-covering, all-inclusive option for core protection. In a welding jacket, you want a jacket that is made from a strong and fireproof material, which protects your arms and torso from heat, metal, sparks and fire. Jackets are better than aprons in that they protect more of your body, including the neck, back and shoulders. There are different materials, but they should all be fireproof and sturdy while allowing for movement.

Cotton Jackets

Chemically-altered cotton is good for heat and fire resistance while providing greater flexibility and movement compared to other materials. Cotton is a better choice for hotter work environments or the need for great dexterity, but is less durable.

Leather Jacket

Made the same way as leather gloves, these jackets come from the hide of an animal (cow, elk, deer, etc) and are extremely durable and show great thermal and burn resistance. Leather does dry considerably over time, but made from the top-grain materials like we offer, they are far more durable than lesser leathers.

Types of Welding Jackets We Carry

  • Men’s
  • Women’s Flame-resistant cotton
  • Leather

Canvas Jackets

A strong middle ground between cotton and leather welding jackets, canvas has more durability than the cotton alternatives without sacrificing too much in terms of movement. However, canvas is still not as durable as leather alternatives.

As a woman owned business, I like the fact that Durango Gloves is one of the only glove companies that carry women's and children's gloves in full grain leathers. I also like their guaranteed sales. I don't have to have winter gloves sitting around collecting dust all summer long. I highly recommend Durango Gloves.
